Sustained attention is the capacity to attend to a situation or task in spite of distractibility, fatigue, or boredom.
You can help strengthen the executive functions skill of sustained attention by using the following strategy, ATTEND:
Aware of attention problem and to what degree
Task can be broken down, chunked into smaller steps
Time frame: have a start and end time to task; have a start and end time to each step in task
Establish a cue that lets you know you have shifted your attention away from the task at hand
Notice details to aid with learning
Document distractions to learn what gets in the way of getting the task done (internal and external)
